Frequently asked questions

Home / Frequently asked questions

Do you re-thatch whole roofs?

Yes. We lay a full new coat of thatch by hand in reed or straw. We will look at your roof, advise and prepare a quote before any work.

How do I get a quote?

Write to us or ask for a look at your roof. We will inspect it, advise on what it needs and give you a clear quote before any work.

What does thatching cost?

It depends on the size of the roof, the material and the work involved. We will look at the roof and give you a clear price.

Do you work on listed homes?

Yes. We thatch cottages and listed homes, advising on materials and working in keeping with the building.

Can you repair storm damage?

Usually, yes. We patch worn areas and storm damage to keep a roof sound. Let us take a look and we will tell you honestly what it needs.

How often does thatch need doing?

The ridge is renewed more often than the coatwork, and the timing depends on the roof and the material. An inspection tells you where your roof stands.

What is re-ridging?

The ridge wears first. When the coatwork is still sound, we lay a new ridge by hand rather than re-thatching the whole roof, which is more economical.

Worn ridge or storm damage? We can make it good.
